With October 31 falling on a Friday this year, it’s safe to say that Halloween celebrations in London are going to raise hell. Forget trick-or-treating, jack-o-lanterns and apple bobbing, we’re talking bewitched warehouse parties and monster mega-raves.

The trouble is, every promoter in the capital likes to jump on the All Hallows hype and picking which fright-night to throw shapes at is not an easy task. We’ve saved you the hassle by selecting our top five Halloween club nights…

1. The Mexican Death Disco – iCan Studios, Hackney WickThe Mexican Death Disco

London promoters Tesselate, Percolate and Mad Ferret join forces on this journey into the Mexican afterlife in the depths of Hackney Wick.
Go loco with your amigos in four themed areas, all embracing the dark mysticism of El Dia De Los Muertos.
Bringing the noise is veteran Chicago house pioneer Chez Damier, Leeds/Paris duo Dungeon Meat, Dutch up-and-comer Frits Wentink, plus residents. Guests are asked to “Cover your face, think Mexican and bring a sparkler.”

2. Black Butter Records Halloween Special – Village Underground, Shoreditch

BB Halloween2014 has been a monumental year for Black Butter Records, the label that launched the careers of bass music trailblazers Rudimental, Gorgon City, Clean Bandit, My Nu Leng, Kidnap Kid, Woz and many more.
Based on the strength of their previous success, it’s a given that this party is going to be off the scale. They’re keeping the lineup under wraps, but BB tell us it’s a monster, “packed full of your Black Butter favourites and some extra special extended family friends.” Grab your tickets ASAP – all of their previous London parties have sold out in advance.

3. Secretsundaze Dead Famous Halloween Party – Oval Space, Bethnal Green

uk-1101-562722-384165-frontAnyone who has attended the Secretsundaze ‘Asylum’ themed Halloween parties in previous years will confirm how wicked and wild these things get. This year introduces a new theme – ‘Dead Famous’. Think deceased artistocrats, artists, politicians and notorious movie stars from bygone eras.
Detroit native and Berghain regular DJ Rolando tops the bill, alongside London acid gangster Funkineven, a live set from Ninja Tune experimentalist Romare, and Secretsundaze residents James Priestley and Giles Smith.

Disco lovers unite – The Hydra delivers a Halloween lineup big enough to wake the dead. Celebrating 10 years of Norwegian institution Full Pupp, label boss Prins Thomas is joined by fellow Norse disco dons Todd Terje (live), Lindstrøm (live), Blackbelt Anderson and Espen Haa. Flying the flag for the UK is the mighty Horsemeat Disco.

5. Don’t: Halloween Slam – 512 Bar, Dalston10682429_10154701416885722_5850475959210842067_o

One for the real techno heads, this intimate Dalston party is the perfect antidote to overpriced club nights and overpaid DJs. Spearheaded by underground legend Jerome Hill, the Halloween instalment of Don’t welcomes US hardware techno maverick Paul Birken and a live set from Chris Moss Acid. Doing it for the girls are Null-Void leading lady Kirsti and Uglyfunk veteran Esther Ofei. Dress to distress – prizes for the best costumes.
