A match-winning display by UAL goalkeeper Charlie Robbie – both saving and scoring in a Cup shoot-out win over arch rivals Goldsmith’s (above) – was the highlight of a mixed week of results for Arts sports teams.
The men’s football third team, rugby and women’s first netball team all enjoyed victories, whilst the women’s second and third netball teams and men’s hockey teams all went down to defeat, but it was goalkeeper Robbie who made the headlines. With the scores locked level at 2-2, the Cup match went to penalties and Robbie stepped into the spotlight, first saving a Goldsmith’s spot-kick and then netting one of his own to put Arts through to the next round.
Also finding themselves in the hat for the next round at the men’s third team, who progressed courtesy of a 1-0 win over Richmond American International.
The men’s rugby team clocked up their first win of the season as they saw off Surrey 16-7 to go second in the table, which is the same position occupied by the women’s netball team after a hard-fought 29-24 win over University College London 5th team.
The women’s netball second team suffered a 24-18 loss against Anglia Ruskin University’s fourth team, however, a result which leaves Arts third in the table, and the netball thirds’ winless start to the season continued as they lost 25-16 to City University’s first team, which means Arts are just one place off the foot of the table.
Another Arts side awaiting its first win of the campaign is the men’s hockey team, but they can take heart from their performance despite going down 6-4 to the University of Hertfordshire’s high-flying first XI.
