Tackling the ticket resellers: What is being done?

1 Mins read

Sick of resellers making it impossible to buy tickets to see your favourite artists? Changes are in progress and the fight for tickets may come to an end.

Everybody enjoys a show, seeing their favourite songs being performed live, yet fans are left disappointed when unable to purchase tickets. Whether directly or indirectly, music fans have all experienced the greed of resellers who buy tickets in bulk and resell them for a jaw dropping profit leaving fans deciding between paying a large sum or missing out. Politicians have recognised this disparity, so what changes are being made?

Although there are already legislations in place, the Labour Party made a manifesto commitment to make further changes and implement further protections. Earlier this month, Culture Minister Ian Murray announced the introduction of a cap on resold tickets, while holding resale platforms accountable to ensuring that sellers, tickets and pricing are in line with the legislation.

Featuring music fan Harry Parnaby who shares his experience with buying a ticket that cost almost three times more than at face value, highlighting the price increase fans are forced to pay to see their favourite artists.

We will have to wait and see whether the cap will make tickets more accessible and if it will act as a deterrent for resellers. This piece summarises and explains what information has been released at current.
