Rosebank: the largest untapped UK oil field approved

1 Mins read

Environmental campaigners have staged protests after the UK Government gave the go-ahead for the development of Rosebank, the largest untapped oil field in the North Sea.

As one of the largest undeveloped discoveries in UK waters, it is said to contain as much as 300 million barrels of oil and is owned by Norwegian energy company Equinor and British firm Ithaca Energy.

The oil field is expected to start production from 2026 and if all goes to plan, could account for 8% of the UK’s total oil production between 2026 and 2030.
