On the afternoon of November 4th, an estimated 4,000 people descended onto the streets of central London to protest against the cost of higher education.

Five years on from the first of several high-profile demonstrations against tuition fees, the National Demo for Free Education and Living Grants for All promised to be one of the major events of the year.

Artefact was there to chronicle the action and find out why so many people had left classrooms and lecture halls across the country to join in with the protest.

You can also review the day’s events with Artefact’s live blog of the protest.
