The rising British singer and songwriter, LION, recently released her new single Fiction and its music video.

Her self-penned four-track EP was recorded at London’s Snap Studios with producer Rich Cooper. LION has been working with Fiction Records, a British record label founded by Chris Parry in 1978 best known for representing the band The Cure.

Her songs combine bluesy riffs with soaring choruses and led by LION’s signature rasping vocal prowess and deft guitar playing; the ‘LION’ EP is equal parts The White Stripes and Florence Welch.

This year, she played in festivals such as Reeperbahn, Dot to Dot, The Great Escape, Latitude and Boardmasters festivals, and supported artists such as Girli, Albert Hammond Jr, Isaac Gracie and The Vaccines. LION also sold out her headline shows at Camden Assembly and The Lexington, a great achievement for debut shows.

Her last single Oh No was well received – being first played at Steve Lamacq’s show on BBC 6 Music, and playlisted on BBC Radio 1. In January 2019, LION will be heading to Eurosonic Festival in Groningen as Steve Lamacq’s choice for BBC Introducing.

Artefact spoke with LION to find out more about this new project.
