R&B singer The Weeknd has been arrested in Las Vegas after reportedly punching a police officer.

Sources say the fight broke out early morning at The Cromwell Hotel on the Vegas Strip, and when police arrived, the fight was still ongoing.

An officer attempted to pull the Often singer into an elevator during the scuffle after 24 year-old Weeknd allegedly punched him in the head.

He was immediately arrested and taken into custody for misdemeanour battery of a protected person. Weeknd, real name Abel Tesfaye, remained at the Clark County Detention Centre until he posted a $2,000 bail.

The singer later posted an Instagram picture boarding a private jet to his one million followers captioned: “escaped from Las Vegas”.
