Shelf life: Inside food banks

1 Mins read

Food banks have become part of modern society, but what is driving this reliance on them, and can we reach a time when they are no longer needed?

From stacking shelves to offering a listening ear, volunteers form the backbone of Britain’s food banks. In this podcast, we delve into their personal stories—uncovering the compassion, resilience, and everyday challenges involved in supporting those facing food insecurity.

Food banks continued to be used throughout 2024, with polling by Survation showing that 23% of the capital’s lowest-paid workers visit a food bank once a week or more. Additionally, a further 28% reported having visited at least once in the last year.

We also take a closer look at the growing demand for food banks in 2024, exploring the societal and economic factors driving this reliance, and ask a critical question: can we envision a future where food banks are no longer needed?

Join us as we shine a light on the individuals making a difference, the stories of those directly affected, and the systemic changes required to build a more equitable society.
