The Flygerians doesn’t just serve Nigerian food, it transports you to Nigeria. The food, the music, and the interior design — it’s all authentically Nigerian. The Nigerian flag proudly hanging from the window, the black and white photographs, the plant decor, the marble wallpaper, and the classic Afrobeats all come together to create a truly Naija atmosphere.
To start off, my friend and I ordered a Supermalt and Fanta, which came in the original glass bottles like you’d find in West Africa. For starters we ordered the Supa Dupa Hot Wings (£5) and Sweet Agege Bread (£4.50), and for our mains the Fully Loaded Beef Suya Fries (£13.50) and Assorted Meat Stew with Rice (£15.00) respectively.
The wings were covered in a hot pepper stew which had just the right amount of kick to it and maintained a fresh crispy texture which was not softened by the amount of sauce. The sweetness and softness of the Agege bread paired beautifully with the garlic chilli butter sauce; truly a match made in heaven. The starters alone were full of flavour and had me even more excited for the mains.
The mains themselves were a delight. The portions were so generous that both of us had to ask for to-go bags. The presentation of the food was superb, with green and red peppers adding a pop of colour to the loaded beef suya fries. The meat was tender and had a strong nutty suya taste, which can be hit or miss when eating out. But here, it was a definite hit. Paired with the crispiness of the fries and the burger sauce, this unlikely combination was the standout.
The assorted meat stew was a testament to The Flygerians’ commitment to authentic Nigerian flavours. Its palm oil base, with just the right balance of sweetness and spiciness, evoked memories of home-cooked meals. The tender meat, easily falling off the bone, and the perfectly cooked plantain, added to the dish’s authenticity.
The Flygerians is a love letter to Nigeria and the food, catering, and service were all top-notch; run don’t walk to The Flygerians next time you’re in Peckham looking for a good bite to eat!
