Three key exhibitions for November

2 Mins read

From giant dinosaurs made of Lego to live sex shows – don’t miss out on any of our top three exhibitions this month.

 Art of the Brick

Art of the Brick is a gallery of large scale sculptures made of Lego bricks – the work of Nathan Sawaya, former lawyer turned contemporary artist. Originally based in New York, Sawaya created large scale constructions for the exhibition – which has taken place in Australia, Asia and America – taking over 400 painstaking hours,

His pieces are created with millions of Lego bricks and range from new conceptual ideas to replicas of iconic classical artwork. Building brick sculptures since 2002, he was the first artist to take Lego into the art world. Art of the Brick is the first exhibition to focus exclusively on Lego as a medium.

Until January 4 2015. Tickets £14.50 @ Old Truman Brewery, Ely’s Yard, 15 Hanbury Street, E1 6QR

Sherlock Holmes: The Man Who Never Lived and Will Never Die

Another way to spend your weekend is at The Sherlock Holmes exhibition at the Museum of London. It’s an event not to be missed, delving into the mind of the world’s most famous fictional detective.

Arthur Conan Doyle’s character is a mystery to us all, and one of the most well-known Londoners of all time. This show is the best way for anyone to get a closer look at 19th century portraits of Conan Doyle, original Holmes manuscripts and the very clothes that Benedict Cumberbatch wore in the BBC’s Sherlock.

This is the first major exhibition on the detective since 1951, and it’s easy to see why there’s still such an enduring fascination with Sherlock Holmes. An array of illustrations and photographs show how Conan Doyle’s creations inspired many of our city’s famous landmarks.

Until April 12 2015. Tickets £10.90 @ Museum of London, 150 London Wall, EC2Y 5HN

The Institute of Sexology: Undress Your Mind

The Institute of Sexology’s Undress Your Mind will take place at the Wellcome Collection’s newly refurbished gallery. It’s an exhibition that brings people and the great pioneers of the study of sex together.

More than 200 pieces of art, erotica, photography and film will help visitors get a different and more acceptable perspective on perversions, lust and normality.

There will be live events, discussions and performances to accompany the X-rated exhibits, which aren’t for the narrow-minded! The work carried out by sex researchers such as Magnus Hirschfeld, Sigmund Freud, Marie Stopes and Alfred Kinsey will be explored with a particular focus on how their bold studies have helped to change anti-sexual attitudes and lift taboos. This exhibition is free and open for everyone to explore.

November 20 2014 – September 20 2015. Free entry @ 183 Euston Road, NW1 2BE
