Searcys is an upmarket venue with a smart-casual dress code, making it the perfect place to celebrate my younger brother’s 18th birthday.
We sat by the window, giving us front row seats to a stunning view of the capital by night. Occupying the top three floors of the iconic Gherkin building in the City, Searcys’ decor is modern and sophisticated.
I didn’t have to wait long until my starter of Salmon mi cuit, with avocado, fennel and oysters arrived. The dishes were very well executed. I was feeling hungry, so for me the dish was a little too dainty, but the quality of the food was outstanding and exceeded my expectations.
With windows surrounding you, the restaurant feels airy and makes you feel like you are eating outdoors. As the night went on, I went for a pancetta wrapped beef and hay-smoked celeriac, which was exquisite.
We then moved on to dessert. I chose a lemongrass brule, pineapple carpaccio and coconut sorbet while my brother went for a chocolate ganache, kumquat and sweet potato ice cream designed in the shape of a balloon. Seeing as it was his 18th birthday, it was beautifully apt for the occasion.
On top of the delicious food, the staff were polite, respectful and very attentive.
We went upstairs after dinner to enjoy the breathtaking 360-degree views of London by night from 180 metres up. Our heads were literally in the clouds. The view makes you realise how big London is and makes you fall in love with the city, if you aren’t head over heels with it already.
The prices at Searcys are moderately expensive, but for celebrating a special occasion I think the money is well spent on a lavish meal above the city.
