Filishack

2 Mins read

Filishack is a fantastic spot for fast, flavourful Filipino-inspired street food. Located at 15a Sayer St, London SE17 1FY, it’s just a few minutes from the Elephant and Castle underground station and near the LCC campus. There’s also a branch in Peckham at 130 Peckham Hill St, SE15 5JT, just a two-minute walk from the UAL accommodation in Peckham, which is how I first discovered this place.

The restaurant has a casual, street-food vibe — perfect for a quick and satisfying meal. It’s not huge, but it’s well-organised, with a friendly, welcoming feel. At peak hours, it can get busy, but the service is fast and efficient, so you’re never waiting long.

Filishack’s build-your-own menu lets you choose a base — rice, burrito, fries, or salad — and pair it with a protein. Some highlights include chicken inasal, grilled chicken marinated in a tangy, smoky Filipino-style mix; beef adobo, slow-cooked beef in a rich soy-vinegar sauce; and crispy tofu, a flavourful, crunchy vegetarian option. Each meal comes with a complimentary salad of lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, and cucumber, plus your choice of sauce — garlic mayo, garlic and coriander, sweet chilli, or sriracha. A small box costs £7.50, a medium is £10.25, and a large is £13.05.

Sides include regular, cheesy, and loaded fries, courgette bites, and tofu bites. A regular portion of fries with any/all complimentary sauces costs £3.50, while a large is £4.50. With the Build Your Own option, you can select half fries and half rice or half rice and half salad if you prefer more variety in your meal. This customisable approach really lets customers tailor their food to their taste.

For drinks, they offer Coke, Coke Zero, and Rio for £1.95, and, best of all, authentic mango juice from Cebu, Philippines, for £2.75. Mangoes are the national fruit of the Philippines, making this a great touch of home.

As a Filipino, I love seeing our cuisine becoming more accessible. Filishack’s chicken inasal and beef adobo bring back memories of home-cooked meals, and it’s great to have a spot in London where I can grab a quick, authentic bite. If you’ve never tried Filipino food before, this is a great place to start. The flavours are bold, fresh, and satisfying without breaking the bank. Whether you’re grabbing a meal on the go or sitting down for a quick bite, Filishack is absolutely worth a visit.
